An Afrocuban set of ilu bata consists of the small drum Okonkolo, the lead-drum Iya and the middle-sized Itotele. Okonkolo means "the small one", Itotele is "the one who remains to follow" and Iya simply is the "mother" of them all. The fourth drum is not used in performance and contains the secret of Orisha Ayan. They are used in Santeria rituals which have their roots in Yoruba-culture from Nigeria. Here you can see a traditional set from Havana with rawhide-tuning. This is the image for all the bata-drummers and traditional or folkloric percussionists out there.
