Obatala literally means "King of white cloth". This drawing shows a traditional sacred statue of the Orisha, called "ere", carved out of wood and painted with white chalk, "efun". In one hand Obatala is holding a sword, in the other hand a silver Agogo Obatala, a bell used in ceremonies and known to the Olorisha worldwide as Obatala’s bell.
