This is a traditional dance staff for the ones initiated into the worship of Eshu or Elegba in Nigeria and can be found in many shrines, often hanging upside down. Typical is the phallic extension of the back of his head and the kneeling figure holding two containers of "Ashe" in his hands, medicine that has the power to transform. He is wearing traditional red beads and charms around his neck, with facial marks and a stylized beard.

The kneeling figure refers to the women’s greeting posture or also to the act of giving birth and thus brings positive things and new energies into our lives. Elegba is the distributor of Olodumare’s "Ashe" and divine messenger, he carries the sacrifices to the irunmole and is important to every olorisha.
